L - Shaped Modular Entertainment Center

This is a similar design to the previously posted design.  There is a 68" tall tower that is 19" wide  x 18" deep.  This tower is design to be light weight, utilizing a sunken panel door design as 3 sides of the tower.

Modular Entertainment Center

This is a modular design for an entertainment center for a new 42" TV.  This design was inspired by the idea of  having an entertainment center look more like a fireplace hearth.  It is able to be easily disassembled for relocation, my wife dream (she is always changing the items in our house).  The unit is 64" long and 76 1/2" tall, the lower and side towers are 11 1/2" deep.  The top is 18 3/4 deep counting the trim.  The lower cabinets are 40" tall.

If you download Google Sketchup 8 you can take a look at the designs [without the room decor] here or [as pictured] here.

Small functional Shelf

Here is an image of a shelf design for a friend.  The requirements for the shelf is that it must be equally strong and can be used as an under the bed shelf or a single column stand-up shelf.  This design varies from my typical 3/4" structure, and instead makes use of everything being 1/2" or 1/4" components.  This design will require more time to build, but should prove to be strong, durable, and (hopefully) light-er.

Book Nook Completed!

After working several weekends and week nights on this project, I can finally say it is finished.  Of course saying it is finished only means I quit.. of course there is minor things that can still be done, but I will save those for the delivery day and confirm shelf setting and the such.

I wanted to post some pics of the completed project and then give a few "behind the scenes" shot to show how it was done.

Pics:

Here is a picture of the back side of the sunk-in panel door.  You can see the pocket holes are plugged.  This door is a 1" x 2" (3/4" x 2" actual) frame with 1/4 inch BC plywood as the inner panel.

Here is a picture of the bottom side of one of the shelves.  This shelf is made with with a simple face frame that is made from 1/2" x 2" braces connected to a grooved 3/4" x 2" runner running the length of the shelf.  This shelf has a 1/4" panel overlay to the inside.

File Cabinet

This is a simple design for a hanging file cabinet.  This design was inspired by a co-worker of mine that was tired of the flimsy metal cabinets that like to tip.  The back of the cabinet is large enough to allow for an extra weight to be added to ensure it will not flip forward. To be pictured later is a design for the back of the cabinet with  a removable weight.

Modular Book Shelf

This design was inspired by my brother.  He wanted a book shelf the could be stackable and that could be taken apart for transport in such a way as to allow for the owner to keep the books in the shelf for transport.  The foot and top of the shelf are built separate of the individual shelves themselves.  This design includes a key "I" notch on the top and bottom of both sides to allow a "key" to be made that can lock the shelf together to prohibit the shelves from trying to come apart.

The grandparents' book nook and toy cabinet

Here is my first design for my parents book nook and toy cabinet.  This cabinet is designed to fit  under a built-in wall shelf that extends out about 10" from the wall and is about 3' off the floor.  The cabinet is designed to the custom dimensions given to me. This cabinet will contain space for kids' books and toys.  The top will be used as an additional serving location for food.  This image was created using Google - Sketchup.

Update: Pix of Cabinet Top (2 - 1"x8"x54" and 11- 1"x6"X6.5" -split and joined together - in the middle)
